In choosing a fountain birdbath, you need to know that there are two general types.
1. The first type is called a solar bird bath and this type you can place anywhere in your yard or garden. It does not require
electricity. It does, however, require direct sunlight. There is a solar panel in the bottom of the bowl that uses the suns
rays during the day to create enough power to operate a small pump usually hidden in the base of the bird bath. The pump is what creates
the fountain of water. If you live in a seasonal area, during the winter months, you need to replace the solar panel with a stationary
panel since you would not want the pump to freeze in low temperatures.
2. The second type has a pump that is run by electricity. These types of birdbaths need to be placed near an electrical source and are usually perfect for patios and decks that are close
to the house. It is very important to follow the manufactures instructions whenever you are dealing with electricity.
Having a birdbath with a fountain will also insure that standing water is not an issue, especially with the fear
of west Nile virus from mosquitoes laying their eggs.
Which ever type of water feature you choose, you can be assured that it will have a
calming affect on you and it will provide you with hours of enjoyment watching and identifying the birds that visit your garden.
