Letter from the Editor

My name is Donna Turner and I am the owner of Fountains-a-Flowing.com.  I was born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware and have lived here my whole life.  I grew up in a little development outside of the city and actually live just a few streets away from my grandfather's house where I lived most of my formative years.

I have two children, James and Katlyn, and as a family we enjoy anything water, especially the beach and swimming in my sister's pool.  We can't wait to go to the beach in the summertime as every year we plan our family vacation.  I, as well as my children, enjoy the outdoors and gardening and my mother and her husband have a beautiful garden in Oxford, Pennsylvania.  They are always involving my children, as well as their 4 other grandchildren in helping to both plant and cultivate.

Every year in the spring they have a Sunflower Planting Contest wherein each of the 6 grandchildren plant their own sunflower seed.  The competition consists of several winners, such as which seed will sprout first and which plant will become the tallest.  Each child is rewarded for their special sunflower plant.

Every fall, the grandchildren again participate in a pumpkin patch, each having their own little pumpkin to cultivate.  Just this past year, Allen, their grandfather presented the eldest grandchild Jeffrey with his own personalized pumpkin - the very first pumpkin that Jeffrey had grew.  Allen had preserved the pumpkin and gave it to him for his 16th birthday, along with an article entry in a popular gardening magazine and a photo album containing many pictures of all the grandchildren gardening throughout the years.  Our family is very close and we enjoy the great outdoors.

This past spring, I decided to give my backyard a makeover.  You see when I bought my house, the backyard was a pile of rocks atop layer upon layer of black landscaping tarp.  The entire project took approximately 2 months.  We had to clear out the rocks, bring in dirt, level the yard and then plant grass seed.  What a project this was. Now that I've got a plain canvas to work with in the backyard, I can now focus on beautification and that's where the fountains came into the picture. 

While searching for fountains for my garden, I realized the different types of fountains there were, not only for the outside oasis I am planning to build, but also for inside projects and beautification purposes, ranging from small desktop sizes to the largest you could hang on a wall to create a spectacular focal point, i.e., in the foyer, or in a grand room or spa room.

I believe fountains to be the most beautiful feature one could have either inside or outside.
